Striding into its fourth year, the Iron horse Film Festival rumbles down the road with hundreds of volunteers and supporters from all over the world, presenting to an audience which might be small in size, however much too complicated to generalize. The organising team has been trying in these years to forge an occasion where people can gather for the love of film art, the care for the society, and the hope to better the world.
By screening films for free, we hope to expose more people to alternative views of the world; by holding discussion sessions, we encourage exchange of opinions; by introducing activist organisations from abroad, we are hoping to strengthen people's awareness of being a part of the global society, where injustice is taking place every moment.
This year, we have found music to be a powerful way of expression, be it dissent, protest, grief or confusion. There are a couple of films on our list dedicated to this motif, including "I know I am not Alone," "Amandla!" along with other activist films from Taiwan and Hong Kong, all of which represent the zeitgeist of our era of discontent. Sometimes, music speaks louder than words.
